Seiki
ORIGIN OF SEIKI
Seiki is an innovative form of bodywork which was originally developed by the Japanese Shiatsu Master Akinobu Kishi, who trained in Shiatsu with the founders of contemporary Shiatsu in the late 1970’s. After extensive studies and clinical experience, Kishi began to teach Seiki in Japan, throughout Europe and in Canada. Seiki has been a major influence on leading Shiatsu teachers like Sonia Moriceau, Paul Lundberg and Bill Palmer, and several advanced Shiatsu practitioners are now offering this innovative and effective form of bodywork.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Seiki (a development of Shiatsu) works to recover health by supporting the self-correcting capacity of the organism (osmosis) to return it to a state of balance. When we catch a cold, certain chemicals in the brain stimulate the body to increase the body temperature to eliminate the invading virus. Seiki supports the homeostatic and self-regenerative movement within to remain responsive and alert. As a result, over a series of sessions, the body is able to more quickly release underlying physical and mental stress patterns. During the session the Seiki practitioner connects with the client’s field of energy. By use of resonance (Ki) with the client, perceptive touch on the client’s body's key resonance areas, continual assessment of physical movements and changes in breathing pattern, the practitioner gives clear guidance for healing to take place.
"When there is mutual trust between the therapist and the patient, a feeling of trust in life forces the patient to show clearly on the body the areas that need treatment. This process awakens the deep nature of being and the changes that happen can be clearly felt, mentally and emotionally ........ The body relaxes and becomes more flexible, pain and abnormal sensations can be clearly felt and the whole body becomes more aware. Then the functions for eliminating toxins become more active on a mental level and harmony is re-established between body and spirit." A.Kishi
In Seiki, the practitioner trusts that the client’s body’s intelligence, as well as nature’s intelligence, already knows the way to recovery and balance. Their role is only to support this innate intelligence.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SEIKI SESSION?
A Seiki treatment is carried out in full clothing at floor level on a comfortable mattress. It lasts approximately 45 minutes. The practitioner, after an initial observation of body posture, breathing and movement, places their hands at relevant resonance points throughout the body, in tune with the client’s breathing. Unlike Shiatsu or Massage, the practitioner's aim is not to touch so as to stimulate the energy of the client to balance. Touch, in Seiki, is a way of connecting, so that "osmosis" with the client’s energetic field can take place and activate the client’s natural self-restorative movement. Initially six to eight treatments are recommended, as the effects of Seiki are cumulative.
WHAT AILMENTS DOES SEIKI HELP?
Seiki treatment can effectively help most ailments, as it works to clear out stagnation of Chi within the organism and supports the body’s natural self-generative movement towards health.
We experience stagnation of Chi in different areas of the body as stiffness, pain and other symptoms of disease. Many factors can trigger stagnation of Chi in one or several body areas, such as postural habits, lifestyle, work and social demands, emotional and physical stress. We normally experience this stagnation as pain, stiffness or other symptoms of disease. This is the body’s natural alarm system, inviting us to take action. When we forget or omit to give attention to it, the body becomes weaker, de-sensitises and this innate ability to heal slows down.
Seiki reduces stress, releases physical and emotional tension, promotes elimination of toxins, increases resilience to adapt to environmental changes, sensitises the organism to seek out what it is best for it, eases pain, restores and maintains optimal energy levels.
It relieves stress related disorders, including hypertension, fatigue and insomnia, emotional distress, back and neck conditions, menarche, pregnancy and menopausal disturbances, common colds and bronchitis, digestive problems and anxiety. With the aid of Seiki, deep unconscious trauma can gradually find its way to consciousness and be released too.
